Etched glass or Sandblasted glass is one of the oldest forms of decorative glass on the market but it can also be used to create a truly modern and contemporary art glass feature. This design on the left has been created with etched glass and the addition of 11 Fused glass tiles.

How is Etched Glass created?
Etched glass is a great decorative glass product and is ideal for traditional door designs and contemporary commercial projects. This style of art glass gives an amazing effect without taking away any of the natural light. A vinyl transfer is 'cut to shape' and overlayed onto one side of the glass, the glass is then inserted into a shot blasting booth and coarse grit/sand is fired at high speed over the design. Once an even finish is achieved, the vinyl transfer is removed, leaving the clear areas unmarked with the 'blasted' areas creating the etched design.

Your numbers up!!
Etched glass is an ideal form of decorative glass for text and numbers on door glass and door glass top lights. One of the most common requests that Leadbitter Glass receives is for etched numbers on or above front doors. If your home has a top light above the door, we can create a panel with your house number/name in etched glass or etched glass film.

Etched glass film is a great product that creates a sanblasted appearance. The process is the same as the early stages of sandblasted glass in that a vinyl cutter machine cuts the chosen design out using an etched effect film instead of a masking film. The etched film is then overlayed onto the glass and the glass is then sealed into a double glazed sealed unit. The great thing about the etched film is that the etch has a slight sparkle to it which you cannot re-create with the standard sandblasting method and this gives a lovely touch to the finished glass design. Leadbitter Glass uses etched glass film as standard on all of our door, window and fanlight designs. The sandblasted method can be used for any design at an additional cost.
